sahastra namavali: is also a stotram, which constitutes a list of 1008 titles of ishwara. sahastra, though widely interpreted as 1008 actually means infinite and since its not possible to list all titles of ishwara the list stops at 1008 expressing our limitation, unable to go further.

it is an established fact that each name of ishwara has a particular amount of sattva, rajas and tamas (qualities of goodness, passion, and darkness) and some names have more of one quality than the other. the names that have more sattva are called purushottam, and those that have more rajas or tamas are called ashtottaras, (eight, because there are eight attributes of ishwara).

this ramsahasranama stotra was composed by shri vallabhacharya. there is an incident in the life of shri gopinathji, elder son of shri vallabhacharya, connected with his zeal towards bhagavata purana. it was a practice with him, right from his youth, to read shri bhagavata purana regularly. he was so obsessed with its reading that he would not even eat unless he would complete shri bhagavata.

very much worried about this adamant attitude of gopinathji, shri vallabhacharya had composed one stotra (a poem
praising the greatness) containing one thousand names of purna purushottama, all extracted from shri bhagavata
purana, and advised his son to read this work daily so that he could have the same complete effect of reading shri
bhagavata purana.

this purushottama sahasranama stotra, is one of the original works of shri vallabhacharya and is much venerated.

Shri Vallabhacharya, the scholar, was greatly impressed by this fact, that after Shri BhagavataPurana, which holds the complete story of many Deities, He would recommend ShriBhagavata Purana to be read repeatedly. And thus he composed this PurushottamaSahasranama Stotra. In this way, he composed this Stotra to please Shri BhagavatPurana. He composed it during the period when he was a sadhaka (a serious student of asceticism), alone in the forest. He got this idea from the Bhagavata Purana. In the year 1584, ShriVallabhacharya was enthralled by this fact.
It is the most difficult and sacred part of the Purushottama Sahasranama Stotra. One has to compose these Shatakam in the serenity of the forest. One should listen to the texts such asShri Shatakam compositions. It is like listening to an ancient piece of music. One has to bring out the best of his personality and ability. To be fully conscious that one has to compose the Shatakam for the one whom we all worship in the form of Rama.We worship Him with all our heart, soul and mind and should be prepared to compose them the best of our ability. These words are from the book Amritasriti of Sargavoo Srikanta. This book is widely known as Amrtamatimritaam,Which literally means that one should fully contemplate on the meaning of the bhagavan Shri Rama. After listening to the perfect knowledge of the great Rama Shri Bhagavata Purana. The Shri Bhuvaneswara Shri Shatakam is the Shri Sukta with the Chhanda of Shri Shri Shatakam.[Note: The Shri Shatakam in the Ashtottara Shatanamavali is 1053 verses long. It holds the verses for Shri Rama, Shri Lakshmi, Shri Vishnu, Shri Shiva, Shri Agni, Shri Vayu, and Shri Brahma and generally holds the same bhagavata as in the Saptati Shri Shatakam.]
