I’m using CakePHP 2 to build a small app.
I have a model called ‘Item’ and a model called ‘Category’. The items belong to a category.
I have a table in the database that stores the item’s category, which is essentially a dropdown list of values.

I’ve been generating the dropdown list using an afterFind in the Item model:
