Giovanni Boccaccio (131375) is one of the most important fiction authors to have ever lived. Born in Florence to a noble family, he showed a remarkable talent for poetry and fiction at a very young age. He traveled widely, especially between 1346 and 1348, as a professor, and wrote important treatises on poetry and literature. He then spent almost half of his life on his own, writing a vast array of literary works, in a variety of genres, as well as non-fiction, philosophical and theological writings. Boccaccio left Italy in 1375 and died in Napoles, Italy, at age 68. He is buried in the Basilica di Santa Maria della Rotonda.
