## Exploring Windows Paint

When it comes to manipulating images in Microsoft Windows, you have plenty of tools at your disposal. The most popular is Windows Paint, a program that enables you to alter and create raster images. If you’re used to using Photoshop, Windows Paint may feel a bit primitive to you, but bear with it — you’ll get used to it as time goes on.

## Color Correction

Elements has tools that offer basic color correction controls, including the Color Balance tools, which we cover in the upcoming section “Adjusting Colors and Tones.”

## Image Organizer

The Image Organizer contains the following tools:

* **Image Bin:** This tool can copy images from any location on your computer and save them to the Organizer. All the images you copy to this tool automatically appear in the Image Bin (Figure 6-5).

* **Edit:** This tool contains many basic drawing tools, as well as more advanced ones such as Free Transform and Mini Bridge.

* **Image Size:** This tool enables you to change the size of images in the Organizer. You can also use it to resize or crop an image.
* **Open:** This tool enables you to open any image or catalog (that is, all the images you have on your hard drive) from the Organizer. You can also copy images from the Organizer into other programs.
* **Organizer:** This tool enables you to browse through your images and

It supports all the photo editing features that you need to edit your images.

It has support for most of the major image formats used by photographers (JPG, TIFF, GIF, etc.). The application can read as well as create these files. Photoshop Elements has several features that allow you to enhance the performance of your images.

The application supports JPEG and a variety of other image formats that allow you to work with your images on a number of different devices and platforms. It also supports the use of RAW image files.

The application also supports the development of images. In other words, you can edit the background, colors, text, lines, and other content on an image without losing all of the data contained in the photo.

You can edit the images that you import into the program, and save them in most of the same formats that you import images into the program.

The Basic Features of Photoshop Elements

Creating New Images

Sometimes you have images that are not the right size or resolution, and you need to resize the image or create a new one. Photoshop Elements has several tools that let you do this without much difficulty. You can import photos from your computer or the web, and Photoshop Elements can create images of any resolution.

You can resize images up to an impressive 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. However, if you exceed that resolution, you will need to download the images as large as possible. This process will normally take a little while.

You can also create new images, adjust their size, change the resolution, and add some effects.

Editing Photos

You can use the editing tools of Photoshop Elements to adjust the image until it is right. It is a tool that photographers have used for years, and it is an important part of the process of making an image look better.

You can use the tools in Photoshop Elements to adjust the color, contrast, brightness, exposure, shadows, highlights, and other aspects of the image. You can also use some of the editing tools to blend images together and create a new image.

Creating Smart Objects

If you are working with a group of photos that are similar, you can make the adjustments to all of the photos at once. This will save a lot of time because you will not have to make all of the same changes to the image again and again. The process is relatively simple, and the results are often very pleasing.

Q:

Why is $[0,1]$ compact and what are its characteristics?

Why is $[0,1]$ compact? I feel like this is pretty common knowledge as I see proofs and examples of it all over the place, but I’ve always been a little fuzzy on how to exactly prove this.
What other properties does it have? What are a few examples of other compact spaces?

A:

Suppose $X$ is any space. Then:

A closed subset $Y$ of $X$ is compact iff $Y$ is totally bounded.

When you consider the closed interval as a subset of $\mathbb R$, you find that it is not totally bounded because no finite subset of the interval contains points arbitrarily close to both the left and right endpoints. Hence, $[0,1]$ is not totally bounded.
Totally bounded sets are closed, bounded, and contain limits of sequences. Thus, if $Y$ is totally bounded then every $x$ in $X$ is an accumulation point of $Y$. Conversely, if $Y$ is not totally bounded then at least one point of $Y$ is not an accumulation point of $Y$ and hence $Y$ is not closed.

The closed interval $[0,1]$ is compact because it is totally bounded in $\mathbb{R}$. It is a metric space and therefore compact in that particular structure.
Regarding other spaces of interest:

In all these spaces the concept of totally bounded is defined a little differently (and that is the main issue of @Gilles’s answer, to be honest), so the two concepts of compactness aren’t exactly identical.

Repaint a JPanel with drawImage() from BufferStrategy

So, I want to repaint a JPanel, but the thing is that I cannot draw the image to it, and I cant understand why.

It has been quite a while since AMD was able to drop a GPU core, especially having to deal with the highest volume x64 architectures (as well as the highest volume x86 architectures). On the CPU side, there were rumors of a new Bulldozer core for this year, but that core was also not featured in any information of AMD’s upcoming server processors or any official product launch plans. However, AMD is still expected to have a server product launch in the coming months, so it is interesting to see a new development out of the chip maker.

According to DigiTimes, AMD’s upcoming server processors will still use the same four core Ryzen 7 chips (with four or eight cores) as before, but will be paired with an external GPU. The upcoming server processor will have a PCIe x16 slot for the GPU, and multiple x8 ports for PCI Express x16 buses. This will be a major departure from what AMD has done in the past, and it seems that the company is trying to bring the GPU capabilities to the server side as well.

The new architecture will be targeted at markets such as HPC, as well as cloud computing and machine learning, and will be expected to replace the old 4 x 16.0 dual socket AMD X360 platforms. However, it seems that AMD’s main intentions with this platform will be to bring a slice of GPU capability to the server side. The AMD HPC platform will be a 4 x 16 design, with a platform supporting up to 16 GPUs. There are many options for this architecture, as well, including AMD’s own Radeon Instinct cards as well as NVIDIA’s Tesla cards.
